Tavernier now has a dedicated spot for sports card collectors and memorabilia enthusiasts with the opening of Treasure Cove Collectibles. Lifelong residents Eric and Chris Ward launched the shop in March 2025, aiming to provide a local alternative to mainland or online retailers.

The shop caters to a diverse clientele, including fans of vintage comics, Pokémon card collectors, and Magic: The Gathering players. Eric Ward, who manages the store, has a long history in the Keys, having previously worked for 25 years at Snappers. His brother, Chris Ward, is involved with Sea Tow and has a passion for comic books and collecting football and baseball cards.

The inspiration for Treasure Cove Collectibles reportedly stemmed from a significant acquisition of sports helmets following Hurricane Milton in 2024. Eric Ward described returning from a cleanup mission with Sea Tow and purchasing a large collection of signed NFL helmets, including pieces featuring Ja’Marr Chase, Tom Brady, and Josh Allen. The sheer volume of these items prompted the brothers to consider opening a retail space.

Eric Ward noted that the Upper Keys had lacked a dedicated card shop since the days of Randy’s card show. He expressed a desire to offer something beyond the typical fishing or bar scene, with a particular aim to provide a positive outlet for local children. The initial launch of the shop took place in Key Largo, operating out of Richard Mangel’s Keys to Embroidery. By August 2025, the business relocated to Tavernier, finding a new location next to Victor’s phone repair shop.

Since its opening, Treasure Cove Collectibles has seen notable successes with patrons pulling valuable items from card packs. Reported finds include a Panini Jayden Daniels Downtown and a signed George Kittle card in football, as well as a signed Lionel Messi Club Legends card and a Manga Erling Haaland card in soccer. Eric Ward commented that while they are not dealing in million-dollar products, the frequency of significant pulls has contributed to the shop's success.

Pokémon cards have proven to be the most popular product, selling out quickly upon arrival. Magic: The Gathering has also gained traction, with weekly meetups for players aged 18 and older. These gaming sessions are held on Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information about the shop and its events can be found on their Facebook page.

The Ward brothers have expressed gratitude for the support received from both local residents and visitors. Treasure Cove Collectibles has also engaged with the community by supporting events like trivia night at Snappers and assisting the Upper Keys Lightning travel baseball team with their trip to Cooperstown. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Product information is also available online at treasurecovecollectibles.net.
