The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) has secured a $25,220 grant from the Ocean Reef Community Foundation (ORCF) to establish its new entrepreneurship incubator lab. This initiative aims to cultivate new businesses and support existing ones within the local community.
Entrepreneurship Incubator Lab Launch
The hands-on program, to be based at CFK’s Upper Keys Center, is designed to guide aspiring entrepreneurs, students, and local business owners through the process of turning innovative ideas into successful ventures. The ORCF grant will fund the program's initial expenses, enabling the first cohort of participants to enroll without charge.
The entrepreneurship incubator lab is more than a college program, it is an investment in the economic future of the Florida Keys. Thanks to the generous support of the Ocean Reef Community Foundation, we are able to launch this initiative and provide our inaugural cohort with access to entrepreneurial education, mentorship and resources at no cost.
According to Jesus Vazquez, a faculty member at CFK, the lab represents a crucial investment in the economic future of the Florida Keys. He highlighted the foundation's support as instrumental in launching the program and offering free access to essential entrepreneurial resources for the first group of participants.
Program Structure and Goals
The incubator lab will operate as an eight-week intensive experience. Participants will receive guidance on various stages of business development, including idea generation, strategic planning, marketing, sales, financial management, and operational efficiency. The program emphasizes a small-group setting to foster accountability, collaboration, and peer networking among participants as they develop and refine their business concepts.
The lab is specifically tailored for individuals in the Upper Keys region who are ready to develop, launch, or expand a business. This includes Keys residents with novel business ideas or startup concepts, as well as new and early-stage business owners seeking to grow or strengthen their operations. For further details, individuals can visit the lab or contact Jesus Vazquez directly via email at [email protected] or by phone at 305-809-3328.
Pitch Night Showcase and Awards
The culmination of the program will feature a “Pitch Night Showcase,” where participants will present their new ideas and ventures. During this event, participants will have the opportunity to compete for a total of $7,500 in awards, providing a financial boost to promising new businesses. More information about CFK's programs can be found on their website.
The Keys Weekly reported on this development, highlighting the collaborative effort between the college and the Ocean Reef Community Foundation to stimulate entrepreneurial activity in the region. Further details on local business trends and real estate can be found through Florida Realtors.
