The Lady Conchs of Key West High School enjoyed a dominant season, finishing with a 17-10 record. Their success included capturing district and regional championships, ultimately advancing to the FHSAA Class 4A Final Four. Key West's postseason success was significantly driven by pitcher Brenner, a junior who posted a 1.75 ERA over 23 appearances. She recorded an 11-2 win-loss record, pitching 124 ⅓ innings and striking out 124 batters. Brenner also achieved 8 ½ shutouts and threw two no-hitters, demonstrating exceptional control and endurance. Her leadership and composure under pressure were noted as crucial to the team's performance.
Offensively, Key West saw contributions from several key players. Sophomore Garcia emerged as a top threat, batting .373 with 27 hits and 18 RBIs, including eight doubles, a triple, and two home runs. Cervantes provided versatility in the infield and contributed at the plate with a .293 average, 19 runs scored, and 22 hits, also drawing 11 walks. Gage was a steady presence in the outfield, batting .351 with 20 runs scored and 18 RBIs, while also hitting two home runs and maintaining a .980 fielding percentage. Sanchez, the team's lone senior, offered leadership and consistency behind the plate, hitting .403 with a .549 on-base percentage and setting a new school record with 22 walks.
Marathon and Coral Shores Showcase Talent
Marathon High School's Dolphins competed in the Rural Class 1A bracket, finishing their season with a 13-5 record. Coral Shores, playing as an independent program, posted a 10-4 mark. Both teams contributed significantly to the All-Keys selections.
Marathon's offense was sparked by the speed of leadoff hitter Merryman, who batted .360, scored 32 runs, and stole 29 bases, making her a dynamic force on the base paths. Thornton was another offensive standout, batting .500 with 28 RBIs and a .800 slugging percentage, adding seven doubles and four triples. Boose proved to be a dual threat, excelling both at the plate and in the circle. She hit .404 with 27 RBIs and compiled an 11-3 pitching record, striking out 72 batters in 64 ⅔ innings.
Coral Shores' freshman Bracher made an immediate impact in her first varsity season, batting .441 with a .578 on-base percentage and an .882 slugging percentage. She drove in 17 runs and hit three home runs, establishing herself as a top young hitter. Bagwell provided valuable contributions for the Hurricanes, hitting .353 with seven stolen bases and striking out 31 batters over 32 ⅓ innings pitched.
Versatility and Depth Recognized
The All-Keys team highlights athletes who excelled in multiple facets of the game. For Marathon, Robinson was a vocal infield leader who batted .312 and drove in 19 runs, reaching base at a .507 clip. Katz combined offensive production, batting .316 with 21 RBIs and eight doubles, with strong defense, posting a .978 fielding percentage. Prince, a freshman for Coral Shores, excelled in various roles, batting .535 with a .615 on-base percentage, 20 runs scored, and 18 RBIs. She also contributed in the circle, striking out 37 batters over 39 ⅓ innings.
