A Delray Beach couple is facing legal repercussions after allegedly leaving two young children alone in a Key Largo hotel room. The incident occurred on July 4 at the Reefhouse Resort Marina.
Children Found Unattended
Employees at the resort contacted the sheriff’s office around 1:45 p.m. after hearing a baby crying from an unoccupied room. Upon investigation, deputies discovered two young children, who were in nursery beds or cribs, alone in the hotel room.
Resort staff eventually located the couple, identified as 43-year-old Brian Cannella and 40-year-old Allison Cannella, at the hotel's pool area. Witnesses reported seeing them consuming alcoholic beverages. The couple was reportedly at the pool for approximately 40 minutes to an hour while the children were left unattended, according to security footage and witness accounts cited in the investigation.
Charges Filed, DCF Notified
Following the investigation, both Brian and Allison Cannella were arrested and taken to jail. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) was notified of the situation. The children were placed in the temporary custody of a family friend until DCF representatives arrived on the scene.
