Keys Weekly has named Brandon Canfield, the service and parts director for Marine Max in Marathon, as their latest "Neighbor of the Week." This feature aims to recognize individuals within the community who contribute to the vibrant life of the Florida Keys.
Canfield has been a resident of the Keys for nearly a decade, seeking a different quality of life and proximity to the ocean. He cited the generally low traffic, excluding holiday weekends, as a favorite aspect of living in the island chain.
"We wanted a different quality of life and to be close to the ocean," Canfield told Keys Weekly when asked about his move to the Keys.
In his free time, Canfield enjoys being on the water, whether boating or visiting sandbars with his family. He also engages in spearfishing with friends on clear days. When asked what he always keeps on his boat, he mentioned a snorkel and fins, ready for spontaneous adventures.
Canfield described himself using three adjectives: outgoing, adventurous, and optimistic. He also shared a humorous aversion to anchovies on menus and expressed a strong preference for flan as a dessert he could eat daily.
When reflecting on his identity, Canfield stated he would refuse to learn how to be someone he is not. He also likened himself to an engine, preferring to "go FAST." He expressed no desire to use a time machine, believing his past shaped him into who he is today and that the anticipation of the future is what brings excitement.
Canfield's professional role at Marine Max in Marathon has him surrounded by what he considers amazing vessels. He humorously suggested his dream boat would be any boat from MarineMax.
